Colin Mochrie in the palm-print shirt, eyebrows up and mouth open, against grey
The same, eyes wide and lips pressed together

How it got made

The brief, the room, the frame.

I’ve known Kevin Gillese a long time, and years ago I brought him in for my Slice of Light series. That shoot is why he thought of me when he was producing Colin Mochrie Live at the Fringe as a filmed special for Tubi. He needed key art: something comedic and commercial, and easy to cut out. I went with a light grey. It’s the most versatile background to cut from, and it looks great on its own.

I’ll admit I was starstruck. I grew up watching Colin on Whose Line Is It Anyway with my whole family. He’s the one who could make me laugh, and my parents, and my grandmother. Not many people’s comedy reaches across generations like that.

The spotlight circle wasn’t in the brief. I’d set it up hoping I could get Colin in front of it to play, and he did. Everybody loved it.

Let them see

You.
