How it got made
The brief, the room, the frame.
This was my first job for CBC: portraits of Nancy Carlson for CBC Edmonton. A week or so before, I went down for a site visit. The space they had for me was a small sound studio, and I needed to know my build would fit. It also meant meeting, in person, the people I’d only talked to on the phone and on Zoom. I had a call with Nancy before the shoot, too, to walk her through how I work.
We shot three looks: a pink jacket, black, and one in the newsroom. One frame was matched to CBC Calgary’s Rob Brown for their 2019 election branding. It went well enough that they brought me back for the reporters and journalists, and then the whole staff. Nancy and I still keep in touch through socials, and I say hello whenever I’m in the building.
